MACHINE HEAD nehmen derzeit ihr neues Album "The Blackening" in den Sharkbite Studios in ihrer Heimatstadt Oakland, California auf. Einmal mehr wird das Album von Sänger und Gitarrist Robert Flynn produziert und von Colin Richardson (Bullet For My Valentine, Napalm Death) gemixt. Weltweite Veröffentlichung ist für Frühjahr 2007 geplant.
Flynn hat zu "The Blackening" folgendes zu sagen: "This is the most ambitious thing we have ever attempted. We all challenged ourselves and each other to write a record that pushed the boundaries of complexity and technical structure. [..] "The nature of what is happening in the world led to a darker, bleaker album in every sense. Neben Politik und Religion wird auch der Krieg im Irak thematisiert.
