Die Band wird sich am Montag, den 21. August in die Sharkbite Studios in Oakland begeben um ihr kürzlich betiteltes Album The Blackening aufzunehmen. Sänger und Gitarrist Robert Flynn wird beim 6. Studioalbum wieder die Rolle des Produzenten übernehmen und Mark Keaton wird wieder einmal als Engineer fungieren. Colin Richardson (Cannibal Corpse, Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine), der schon lange mit Machine Head zusammenarbeitet, wird dann zusammen mit Herrn Flynn die Platte im Oktober in London mixen.
Words can't really describe how excited we are to get into the studio and record this record," erzählt Schlagzeuger Dave McClain. The shows that we just played on the Sounds of the Underground tour were as amazing as we'd hoped they'd be, the raw energy and excitement level of our fans right now is just incredible, we're fired up!"
Vorläufige Songtitel des neuen Albums, das voraussichtich im Frühjahr 2007 erscheinen wird, sind: Clenching The Fists Of Dissent", Aesthetics Of Hate", Halo", The Beautiful Mourning", Now I Lay Thee Down", Slanderous Love", Wolves" and A Farewell To Arms". Gitarrist Phil Demmel fügt hinzu, We're still smoothing out some rough edges but what we have, we're extremely proud of. I'm not one to go off on 'Heavier than blah-blah-blah!!!!' and 'Crushes your-these-and-those!!!!', but I will say that fans of what we call 'Just Fuckin' Metal' will be digging this new material". Die Band hat außerdem den langjähringen Machine Head Künstler Paul Brown (Marylin Manson, Michael Moore) mit dem Album Artwork beauftragt.
